Tom and Tash’s wedding was one the many 2020 weddings that had to be postponed. Luckily when it came round to their September wedding, all Covid restrictions had been lifted and allowed them to go ahead with their large wedding celebrations.
I first met Tom in 2018 when he was best man at Becky and Chris’s wedding in Badminton. Consequently it was a wonderful surprise he contacted me a year later to announce that he was engaged himself and wanted me to photograph his and Tash’s wedding in Badminton, Gloucester.
Tom the groom grew up on a farm in Gloucester. For their wedding celebrations they set up a large marquee in a field behind the farm.
Tash was getting ready in her parents house which was only half an hour drive from the church. I have to admit I love it when a bride gets ready in her childhood home as the place is usually filled with loads of photos and the bride is that much more relaxed while getting ready. Tash not only had her sister, her mum and her best friend around her, but also her horse Otter who came to pay a visit and to pose for a few photos.
The wedding ceremony took place in Badminton Church which is one of a kind with it’s high pews (once seated you can barely look over the top) and large stained glass windows. We had an almost full house (not that you could actually see that with the high pews), the weather was spectacular and the groom and his mates in excellent spirits.
“Thank you so so much for this – we absolutely love the photos and so exciting to get them back and re-live the day!“
From Badminton Church it was only a five minute drive to Cape Farm, Tom’s childhood home. They had set up a large marquee at the back of the farm as well as many bell tents for guests to stay in. I openly admit, I truly love a summer marquee wedding! The light inside a marquee is generally very good as the canvas acts as a large light diffuser (which is a good thing). Also the space, freedom and countryside views help a lot when arranging large group portraits.
Let’s also not forget the cherry picker. Similarly to Becky and Chris’ wedding in 2018, the farm provided me with a cherry picker to be able to take a group shot from high above. I am not scared of height, no not at all so this wasn’t the slightest bit challenging for me (wink wink). Always the pro I rose to the occasion and got lifted up high, catching a wonderful photos of all 150 wedding guests as well as the marquee set in the countryside.
Speeches took place before the almost 200 guests got seated and the evening was filled with a disco and live band which did not fail to pull everyone onto the dance floor and allow me to shoot some pretty funny pictures of the guests having a great time.
