Berwick Lodge is one of those venues that has it all: beautiful room for the bridal party to get ready in, a large dedicated ceremony room and beautiful grounds around the property that can be used for the drinks reception as well as the group photos.
I like to arrive at a wedding venue in good time to ensure I can have a good lock around before starting with the preparation photos. This also gives me a chance to speak to the wedding coordinator, find the groom (who will most likely not be in his room) and check the gardens for seasonal highlights.
What a way to finish of a successful wedding day – with a cigar in the sunshine!
Emilie had a fantastic gaggle of girls around her including mum, sister and niece. At the end it is always hand on from everyone to get the bride into her dress, adjust hair and complete the finishing touches. And while Tom did not know how to iron a shirt, his mates quickly came to the rescue by googling tutorials and doing the job for him.
The ceremony started off with a big laugh when the page boy promptly decided he didn’t want to lead the way down the aisle and instead only walk directly behind the bridesmaid (his mum). You could see that the groom was wondering why the music had started playing but no one was coming in! No, the bide had not changed her mind!
“Thank you so much for the photos, they looks great! Also we just wanted to say a huge thank you again, we’ve had so many compliments about you and how you were on our special day!“
Apart from the false start, the ceremony was short, sweet and tears filled. As soon as the couple walked out into the open they were greeted by the biggest confetti explosion! This moment is always so much fun to photograph!
The guests enjoyed a sun filled drinks reception in the garden, followed by group pictures and individual bride and groom portraits. As I like to interfere with the day as little as possible, I generally leave the bride and groom portraits until the end of the drinks reception and instigate them just before the guests are asked inside. This way the couple don’t miss any time with their guests but instead make the most of the long time it takes 60 people to finish their drinks, go inside and find their seats.
The speeches following the wedding breakfast were particularly good and Tom’s dad as well as Emilie’s siblings did not leave out any chance to both embarrass as well as cherish the bride and groom.
Following a break, drinks and cigars in the evening sunshine, the wedding guests settled into an evening disco and leisurely party in the venue’s grounds.
