September 2012 was a good months because I shot two very beautiful weddings. The first one was in my homeland Germany just outside Düsseldorf in Kaiserswerth. The bride Stella has been a great friend of mine since we were teenagers and I was there 17 years ago when she started dating her now husband. Their relationship is one of the best love stories I know!
I started off by visiting the Stella and Dennis at their hotel. They got ready is separate rooms that were located next to each other so it was easy for me to see them both getting ready. Once they were both ready, Dennis picked Stella up at her room and they travelled to the church together. The ceremony was held at the Stadtkirche in Kaiserswerth, followed by the reception at the Burghof. ‘Burg’ means castle and the Burghof was located next to the ruins of an old castle which of course we used in our portrait session. The Burghof was also situated next to the river Rhine which provided us with the perfect backdrop for some sunset portraits.
Photographing a friend’s wedding always is a bit of a mixed blessing. It’s the biggest honour to play an important role in your friend’s special day and create an ever lasting memory for them. On the other hand I inevitably know quite a few of the guests and naturally find it hard to not get involved in conversations. I find being honest and clear about my roles (photographer versus guest) works best. Until a certain time I am at work. When the job is done and everyone is happy, I will be the guest and raise my glass to the bride & groom! Prost, liebe Stella und lieber Dennis!!

Dear Betty,
what a lovely couple and what an intimate wedding. They are absolutely a d o r a b l e! I especially loved the shot of the groom wearing two types of shoes. 😉
