Summer Wedding at the Guildhall & Bathwick Boatman

Summer Wedding at the Guildhall & Bathwick Boatman

Bride Groom Confetti shot outside the Guildhall in Bath

After a string of very small weddings (due to covid restrictions), this was my first bigger wedding since the end of 2019 and what am absolute beauty it was, on every single level! The sun was shining (after many weeks of annoying cold and rain), the hotel was spectacular (thank you Queensberry), the bride and her bridesmaids were stunning, the Morris Minor put its roof down and the champagne was flowing during the boat cruise. Heaven!

I met Ed and Africa six years ago when I photographed Doug and Nicole’s wedding on my birthday (Ed was the best man). Ed and Africa had only just started dating then and I knew both Ed as well as Doug through my husband. I love when you photograph friends of friends, it is almost guaranteed that you are all on the same wave length and get on brilliantly!

Fun fact: Ed and Africa had the same surname BEFORE getting married! What are the chances?

Many couple choose to get married at The guildhall, followed by ride on the Pulteney Cruiser up river Avon to either Bathampton Mill or the Bathwick Boatman for their wedding celebrations.

Africa, the mothers and the bridesmaid were getting ready at the beautiful Queensberry Hotel and I arrived in good time to photograph not only the preparations, but also the wedding dress, the bride’s shoes (in front of the most funky wallpaper) as well as the three beautiful green bridesmaids dresses. The Queensberry Hotel is not only extremely central, but also very stylish, light and photogenic. Once everyone was ready the bridesmaids took off and I travelled with the bride and her dad in a beautiful 1960s Morris Minor. We stopped at the Circus for some photographs before heading to the Guidhall to get married.

Betty photographed my wedding, there’s no doubt that she is exceptional at what she does. Professional, subtle and she paid attention to the small but important details. We are so pleased with the photos Betty took, they are exactly what we wanted and hoped for. Thank you, Betty!

After a short, but sweet wedding ceremony in the Alkmaar Room we spend half an hour in Parade Gardens for various group shots, before heading over to the weir to enter the Pulteney Princess, a river cruiser that takes you all the way from the weir to the Bathampton Mill. Watch out for herons and kingfishers along the river banks!

Ed and Africa had chosen the Bathwick Boatman as their wedding venue and after an hour on the boat that is where we departed. The Bathwick Boatman is ideal for weddings up to thirty guests. The outdoor area is included in the hire and makes for another excellent portrait background.

Guildhall Bath Wedding Post Lockdown

Guildhall Bath Wedding Post Lockdown

Same sex wedding couple photography at the Roman Baths in Bath

This wedding took place last month and was my first wedding after the first 2020 lockdown. It was my first wedding that included face masks, blue gloves, social distancing and limited amount of guests. It was a wedding filled with tears, shock and hope. And those were just my emotions! 😉

Lara and Ant had initially planned a two part wedding: the first part being a surprise wedding ceremony at the Guildhall for just close family and the second being a big celebration at Eggbeer Farm in Exeter. While most of my couples postponed their weddings, Lara and Ant decided to go ahead with the actual wedding ceremony at the Guildhall, however not as a surprise. I felt very proud of them for getting married and showing the finger to Covid 19! Love continues and cannot be postponed!

Those of you who have been part of a wedding during the last month will have seen the pesky blue rubber gloves.

Lara and Ant decided to do all group portraits before the ceremony so that the guests could move on to the restaurant after the ceremony while I was taking some more pictures of them alone. So we met at Parade Gardens which is only about 100 metres away from the Guildhall and an excellent backdrop for wedding group shots (note: in the summer time you need to pre-book entry for weddings!). I absolutely loved Lara’s dress and hat with a small veil, it perfectly suited her personality! As you can see by Lara’s big smile: the pandemic did not dampen her joy being a bride!

“The photos are amazing, thank you so much! Was so lovely reliving the day. We are so excited about next year!”

Personally I struggled a bit with the ceremony at the Guildhall as it just didn’t seem right to only have fifteen people in a room as large as the Alkmaar Room. The ceremony was short, but very sweet! Under the new covid rules only the bride and groom do not need to wear a mask during the ceremony, everyone else has to, including myself. Also photographers are no longer allowed to move around during the ceremony, but have to stay in one place.

After the ceremony we set up a confetti shot outside the south doors of the Guildhall, before meandering into the town centre for some more pictures – in a pub as chosen by the bride and groom! Here is a bit ‘prost’ to everyone who still chooses to get married after a global pandemic!! xx

Guildhall & Holburne Museum Wedding Photography

Guildhall & Holburne Museum Wedding Photography

Hi Betty, We were just looking through the photos again and can’t remember if we’ve told you how much we love them! They are brilliant and just what we wanted – thank you so much! All the best, Jason and Anna

I shot this wedding last summer. I was really looking forward to Anna and Jason’s wedding as the brief was slightly different to most other weddings – no posed shots (apart from one or two group shots) or bride and groom portraits. I love taking portraits (a lot) but I also love a challenge and it’s really important to me that the bride and groom feel comfortable and can enjoy the day (because that is what really makes good photographs: genuinely happy people!).

Anna and Jason got married in the Alkmaar Room at the Guildhall followed by a confetti shot just outside the Guildhall and then a leisurely walk over to the Holburne Museum for their drinks reception, speeches (with some broken glasses), dinner and evening party. The weather was as spectacular as the settings which gave the bride & groom and their guests a chance to make use of all the beautiful outdoor settings at the Holburne Museum.

Thank you for making it to the end of this post.

Ring Exchange (or when you cannot get it on)

Ring Exchange (or when you cannot get it on)

Yesterday I photographed Anna & Jason’s wedding ceremony at the Guildhall in Bath, followed by the reception at the Holburne Museum. I don’t know why but this kind of moment happens rather a lot!

The couple as well as their guests ( and the registrar) had a good laugh when Jason just could not get Anna’s wedding ring on her finger (he succeeded eventually) – the faces say it all! Why are some rings so stubborn to get onto a finger? Maybe it had to do with the summer heat. Or nervous sweaty hands.

In any case it makes for a great photographic moment and I sure am ready and in position well in time for the crucial ring exchange moment.

Peeping Registrar | A moment in pictures

Peeping Registrar | A moment in pictures

I took this photo in the Bath Registry Office last September. The groom was in the Alkmaar Room, waiting for all the guests to assemble, while the bride waited in reception for the registrar to call her in. The bride and her uncle (who was giving her away) were just practicing to walk festively in sync, when the registrar turned up and watched them for a while, before calling her in.
