When I started my first job in London (as an architect) ten years ago, I met and became friends with Sarah, the bride’s older sister. In all that time I only met Emma once, she contacted and booked me one year in advance of her Valentine’s Day wedding at the beautiful Fanhams Hall Hotel in Hertfordshire.
If you live in the south west of the country you might remember the rain and storms we had on that day. I vividly remember the radio news warning people not to travel that day. Oh well, I travelled three hours each way to photograph this wedding and have no regrets! Fanhams Hall Hotel is breathtakingly beautiful, the outside of the building as well as the gardens are so sculptured.
I arrived well in time to shoot everyone getting ready. It was a fun affair with many of the bride’s friends and their children in the bride’s suite! I then joined the groom and guests in the great hall where the ceremony took place. After the drinks reception we quickly ventured out in the rain for some portraits with the Hall in the background. I particularly like the shot with the best man and the maid of honour holding the umbrellas and looking miserable! All this was followed by food and speeches. I love speeches at weddings! In most cases I don’t personally know the bride and groom and it gives me a short, but very personal insight into their lives and personalities.
Enough talk, now enjoy the photographs of this year’s Valentine’s Day wedding!
