Surprise Engagement at the Palladian Bridge in Bath

Surprise Engagement at the Palladian Bridge in Bath

Prior Park engagement portrait session

In the summer I had the pleasure of photographing a surprise engagement on the beautiful Palladian Bridge in Bath. Shehan had contacted me a few weeks in advance to share his plans of proposing to his girlfriend on a day trip to Bath. They were lucky to have a beautiful sunny summer’s day.

I got to Prior Park well before them to set up camp not far from the bridge, with my cameras ready and hidden under my rucksack. Once Shehan and Kumari finished their picnic, they started wandering towards the bridge and it all got very exciting. After a short while (of probably gathering his courage) Shehan fell down on one knee and held up his ring. They were too far away for me to hear them but not too far to catch them with my zoom lens. She said yes and there were hugs, kisses and tears.

Then he turned around and pointed at me, which added to Kumari’s surprise. After a moment of calming down, we went for a walk together through the park and took some portraits of the newly engaged couple. I have to say I have a lot of respect for Shehan to propose in front of my camera as I have no doubt this must have been an immense act of courage. But now they have the moment captured in pictures forever!

If you are planning a surprise engagement for your partner and would like to have the moment captured, please don’t hesitate to contact me – I can help you find the right location, plan the necessary details and help make it a memorable event!

These are beautiful Lydia and Andrew. We met for our engagement portraits a month before their wedding which was one of my most anticipated weddings this year for one wonderful reason: Lydia is the third of three siblings and I have photographed all of their weddings! First Karis & Will who got married at Folly Farm Centre three years ago. The Colette & Ed who got married at Aldwick Court Farm in April. And in July Lydia and Andrew tied the knot at Clifton College in Bristol. We met in this amazing nature reserve near Bath and as you can see the summer weather was amazing and the hot air balloons were out with us. I cannot wait to share their wedding photos with you!

Thank you so much, we love them! Can’t wait for the big day now! Love Hilary & Mark xx

Hilary and Mark will be getting married in exactly a year’s time so we used this little engagement portrait session to get them excited, to create a record of their love and to take some pictures of them to use for the upcoming save-the-date card. In addition to that it’s always interesting for couples to feel what it’s like to be photographed by your chosen photographer. I think it’s fair to say these two had fun and are looking fab! 🙂

Summer Engagement Portraits in Bath

Summer Engagement Portraits in Bath

I will be photographing Georgia and Igor’s wedding this October and both as a celebration as well as to document their love for each other we had a lot of fun taking some engagement portraits in beautiful Bath last weekend. A lot of people wonder what engagement portraits are for and deem them unnecessary. If you asked any couple however who has done an engagement shoot prior to their wedding, they will tell you what an excellent chance it is to get to know your photographer, see how they work, how they direct you and what the outcome is. It is also a chance to create some photographs that can potentially be used for a save-the-date card. Engagement portraits can be taken at the location you proposed, at a place that means a lot to you or even at the wedding venue. The world is your oyster and I definitely love getting creative and making use of beautiful places and seasons!

And this is what happens when you balance a wedding ring on a dog’s nose …  it was Camille’s idea to do this and thankfully she remained very relaxed when the ring fell … between the concrete patio slabs! Quick thinking and teamwork got the ring back out in no time thankfully!!
