Multi-Cultural Guyers House Wedding Photography

Multi-Cultural Guyers House Wedding Photography

Sue and Angelo were the wonderful bride and groom at this a fabulous culturally mixed wedding last October. Sue who is Chinese and Angelo, who is Italian-English, took elements of both of their traditions to create a beautiful and memorable day.

I met with the couple at Guyers House, a truly spectacular venue, a few months prior to discuss the plans for the celebration which would involve not one, but two wedding ceremonies! Sue and Angelo would first have an English ceremony, including all the usual aspects; a white dress, the walk up the aisle, a ring exchange, and then the couple would go and prepare for the next part of the day where they would enjoy a traditional Chinese tea ceremony and would both wear stunning, ornate wedding outfits in red, which is the colour of good fortune, vitality and happiness.
The bride’s two outfits as well as the groom’s Chinese outfit for the tea ceremony.
On the day of the wedding, as always I arrived early; I like to use this time to walk around the grounds to revisit my planned photo locations and assess any new options before the hubbub of the day begins.  This preparation gives me the chance to consider the weather conditions, the colours and textures of the planting, the light and all the aspects that will play a part in the composition of my photos.

My thoughts were crystallised by the time I started unloading my equipment and set up ready to start photographing the bride’s preparations. Sue had her mum as well as Angelo’s mum and sister there to help her get ready and of course to offer support at this special but emotional time. Angelo had chosen his brother to be his best man and I think he did an outstanding job with the right balance of humour and distraction which eased Angelo’s nerves as he got himself ready for the day ahead.

“In a traditional Chinese tea ceremony the couple both wear stunning, ornate wedding outfits in red, which is the colour of good fortune, vitality and happiness.”

A marriage of cultures at Guyers House

The wedding ceremony was really beautiful with Sue and Angelo both crying tears of happiness. Sue’s mum was very emotional and all the parents were clearly extremely proud. To me, tears at a time like this show how much people care, these moments should always be treated respectfully but should in my mind always be acknowledged, they are a true reflection of the love shared and there’s no shame in that!

Following English ceremony the drinks reception took place outside in the grounds, where I photographed the guests showering the couple with confetti. The couple headed off for their  outfit change ready for the Chinese tea ceremony.

Guyers House Wedding Photography

The detail in the bride’s and groom’s clothes was incredibly intricate and both looked stunning and so that the Chinese family members unable to make the trip overseas for the wedding could wish the couple well, the tea ceremony was streamed on social media. What a wonderful example of ancient custom marrying perfectly with modern technology, just like the two cultures of the couple joining in union that day.  As part of the ceremony it’s tradition for the bride’s parents to give a golden ring to the groom and a golden bangle to the bride. Sue’s mum found it quite hard to get the ring onto Angelo’s finger and I took the opportunity to capture this very entertaining moment.  I think it is little interactions like this that not only make a great photo but that deepen connections between the new family members and that will be remembered long after the wedding day itself has concluded.

After photographing the pretty flowers and delicious cakes at the wedding breakfast, Sue changed back into her white wedding dress we set off for a few quiet moments to take some  photos of the couple. They are both caring, romantic people so I am really pleased that the shots of them together under the umbrellas and the portraits in the neighbouring farmer’s field capture that so naturally.

The evening party started first with the cake cutting followed by the first dance with everyone taking part in the wonderful celebrations; but the show was definitely stolen by Angelo’s gorgeous, glamorous Italian granny who totally rocked the dance floor!

Folly Farm Centre Wedding Photography

A Windy Autumn Wedding at Folly Farm Centre near Bristol & Bath

This beautiful autumn wedding took part at the Bristol based Folly Farm Centre. This venue is ideal for weddings as it offers accommodation on site and many couples opt to hire Folly Farm for the weekend so they can have the evening before the wedding for family members and friends to meet and get to know each other.
Gemma got ready in one of the rooms at Folly Farm and was surrounded by her mum, her daughter (the most beautiful flower girl) as well as her best friend. Neil’s room was located around the corner so they couldn’t see each other, but once ready he had to walk past the girls bedroom window to go and meet the registrars.

Totally in love with the photos! Now to try and decide what to do with them. 😉

– Gemma & Neil”

The wedding ceremony was beautiful and the room smelled amazing from all the flowers Classic Flower Designs had arranged. I particularly loved the huge ‘LOVE MR & MRS’ letters at the front.

After the ceremony all the guests moved into the main reception area for the drinks reception to give the Folly Farm staff a chance to change the room around for the wedding breakfast.
One of the main challenges I face as a wedding photographer is the time restraint between the ceremony and the reception. I need to strike a careful balance between giving the bride & groom space to meet and greet their guests, and utilize the tome for both formal group shots as well as romantic bride and groom portraits.

Due to the warm but rather windy weather we had a little OOPS moment when the bride’s veil took of mid portrait session and got stuck up high in a tree. Thankfully some guests quickly volunteered and rescued the veil.
Once sat for the wedding breakfast the guests enjoyed a series for emotional and very funny speeches (my favourite part of the day!), followed by an amazing evening reception which was dominated by the Blues Brothers tribute band The Blues Others.

Now please enjoy the photos of what was a simple wonderful autumn wedding day!

Roman Baths Sunset Wedding Photography

Roman Baths Sunset Wedding Photography

The Roman Baths is one of the most iconic places to visit and and many people still don’t know that you can get married in the area around the famous bath and celebrate your wedding within the premises. Due to the daily opening hours you can only book sunrise ceremonies at 8.30am or sunset ceremonies from 7pm.

I have photographed a beautiful sunrise wedding and you can find it here.

“We received the USB and prints and wanted to thank you – they’re really great photos, and really capture the fun that we were having! I must say that I really enjoyed myself – and everyone seemed to have a nice relaxed evening and love the ceilidh.”

Susan and Mark chose a sunset wedding with a ceremony set for 7.30pm. Following a short and humorous ceremony, everyone enjoyed a relaxed drinks reception around the baths, followed by a sit down dinner upstairs in the terrace. Speeches were short, but sweet and the ceilidh dancing in the Reception Hall started at 10pm. For me this was a real hands-off wedding which I hugely enjoyed, I was truly the fly on the wall to capture the evening’s enjoyments!

Clifton College Bristol Wedding Photography

Clifton College Bristol Wedding Photography

Lydia and Andrew’s wedding at Clifton College in Bristol was special for a unique reason: Lydia is one of three siblings and I photographed all of their weddings! First Karis and Will’s wedding at Folly Farm in July 2014 and then Colette and Ed’s wedding at Aldwick Court Farm in April this year.

So needless to say, I was excited to meet Lydia’s family for the third time and to photograph stunning Clifton College for the first time.

Although it was mid-July the weather sadly didn’t cooperate, and the forecast was light rain – not ideal for an outdoor wedding ceremony! To my joy Andrew was undeterred though and proceeded with the plans for the outdoor ceremony.

After a short site visit I headed over to the Marriott Hotel Bristol to capture the bride getting ready. Lizzy Westney did an amazing job getting the girls ready. Once Lydia was ready we both rushed back to Clifton College and the ceremony started immediately. Yes, it was windy and yes, it was raining a little, but this did not stop the lovebirds from having an amazing and emotional time. Never have I seen a couple skip back down the aisle together, you could see it was pure joy (and a little relief I guess).

Sorry we were out the other night, so didn’t get chance to look through them but I have now and they are wonderful!! Absolutely love them. It was such good fun reliving what was such a fabulous day for us! Also, love the pics of you at the end! You have been to more Harris family weddings than you can shake a stick at!!

Thankfully the rain stopped, and everyone enjoyed the drinks reception outside, followed by the wedding breakfast inside the (grand hall). I think I have written about this before, my favourite part during weddings are the bride and groom portrait shoot and the speeches. The latter yet again didn’t disappoint with an enormous number of speakers: bride’s mum and dad, bride’s uncle, groom’s dad, bride and groom, and last but not least the best man! It felt fabulous to get a mention by the bride since it was third time lucky (see first paragraph). Ready for food, everyone enjoyed a few hours of socialising, followed by the first dance and joyful celebrations. And if you look carefully, you might even see me on one of the images!
